Afghan Foreign Minister to Visit Darul Uloom: Amir Khan Muttaqi, the foreign minister of the Taliban government in Afghanistan, is on a seven-day visit to India this week. This is the first visit by an Afghan official to India since the Taliban came to power in 2021. On Friday, he met with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
Today, he will visit Darul Uloom in Deoband town, Saharanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. This institution is a world-renowned Islamic educational center. Muttaqi will meet with clerics and students there. The Darul Uloom wardship and security agencies are fully prepared for his visit.
The Relationship Between Deoband and the Taliban
Founded in 1866, Darul Uloom is considered a part-way of Deobandi Islamic ideology. Along with education, it moreover played a key role in India's self-rule struggle. Its teachings have spread to many countries in South Asia, expressly Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
The Taliban and Deoband moreover have a long and historical relationship. The curriculum and ideology of Darul Uloom Haqqania, established in Pakistan in 1947, were inspired by this madrasa. It moreover played a role in the rise of the Afghan Taliban.

Speaking to the media, Muttaqi said, "Deoband is a major part-way of the Islamic world. Afghan scholars and Deoband have a long-standing relationship. It is a spiritual center. We want our students to come and study here."
Visit preparations
Darul Uloom Vice Chancellor Maulana Mufti Abul Qasim Nomani stated that the institution's doors are unshut to all and they will be welcomed. Muttaqi will meet with Darul Uloom scholars and write students. The unshortened Deoband zone has been decorated, and security has been tightened.
