Do RJs get to choose the topics they discuss?
It depends. At Big Live, we have editorial meetings where RJs and producers brainstorm topics based on current trends, listener interests, and seasonal themes. I do have the freedom to pitch topics close to my heart or relevant to my audience, but not everything is at my sole discretion. We balance creativity with brand values and compliance—some subjects might be sensitive or controversial and require careful handling. Also, the audience’s pulse guides topic choice; if listeners want to talk about mental health, relationships, or music trends, we respond. The best shows happen when RJs feel passionate about what they say. So yes, there’s input, but it’s collaborative, not solo.
