New Delhi: Iran's Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, on Saturday thanked the Indian government on behalf of Tehran for its "principled and firm support" in voting versus the resolution passed on Friday at the 39th special session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

"I proffer my sincere gratitude to the Govt. of India for its principled and firm support of I.R. of Iran at the UN_HRC, including opposing an unjust and politically motivated resolution. This stance reflects India’s transferral to justice, multilateralism, and national sovereignty," Fathali wrote in a post on social media.,
What was the UNHRC decision?
In the resolution, unexplored with 25 votes in favor, 7 against, and 14 abstentions, the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) strongly condemned the violent crackdown on peaceful protests. A statement issued by the UNHRC said, "The UNHRC unexplored a resolution extending the mandate of the self-sustaining international fact-finding mission on Iran for two years and the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran for one year.
