World News: India’s BrahMos missile is receiving attention from across the world after it was successfully used in a recent strike against Pakistan. The precision and power shown during the operation have impressed many nations, and now at least 15 countries are looking to buy it for their defense forces.
The BrahMos missile, a product of India and Russia’s joint efforts, has gained a reputation as one of the fastest and most reliable missiles in the world. It can be launched from land, air, or sea and travels at speeds close to Mach 3 (three times the speed of sound). Its range of up to 800 km, ability to fly under the radar, and powerful 3-ton warhead capacity make it a powerful tool in modern warfare.
Global Interest Rises
After the missile was used in Operation Sindoor, where it successfully destroyed nine terror camps in Pakistan with pinpoint accuracy, interest from foreign nations has surged. Even China’s media, particularly the South China Morning Post, has acknowledged the strength of the missile, calling it highly dangerous and effective.
India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed that around 14 to 15 countries are currently in talks to purchase the missile. A report by The New Indian Express has listed the names of these interested nations.
Countries Interested in BrahMos
The list includes countries from different parts of the world:
- Southeast Asia: Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Brunei
- Middle East: Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Egypt
- South America: Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Venezuela
Some of these nations, such as the Philippines, have already taken steps to acquire the missile. In 2022, the Philippines signed a $375 million deal with India. Now, Vietnam and Indonesia are reportedly negotiating deals worth $700 million and $450 million, respectively.
Many of these countries are facing rising tensions either with neighboring countries or want to boost their military capabilities. For example, the Philippines has ongoing disputes with China in the South China Sea, while countries like Brazil and Venezuela are openly opposing U.S. policies in the region.
Why BrahMos Stands Out
What makes BrahMos special is its versatility, speed, and accuracy. It is named after two rivers—India’s Brahmaputra and Russia’s Moskva. Apart from speed and stealth, it can operate under tough conditions and reach deep into enemy territory without being easily detected.
The missile's cost is around 34 crore (roughly $4 million), making it a high-value product in the global arms market. Its success has not only strengthened India’s defense reputation but also opened new doors in international military trade.
