International News: Jailed former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has once again launched a strong attack on Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir. In a recent social media post, Khan alleged that General Munir is damaging national interests just to keep control over power. He said the general is using the army for personal political goals.
ISI Accused of Supporting Munir
Imran Khan also claimed that Pakistan is currently being ruled by "Munir's law" and that the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) is protecting him. He alleged that national priorities are being ignored and sacrificed to maintain one-man rule.
Compares Munir to Yahya Khan
Imran drew a controversial comparison between Asim Munir and former military ruler Yahya Khan, under whose leadership a civil war broke out in East Pakistan—leading to the creation of Bangladesh in 1971. According to Khan, Munir is insulting the army in the same way Yahya Khan did during his time in power.
Says Current Government is Unconstitutional
Ahead of a major political campaign his party is planning next month, Imran Khan also criticized Pakistan’s current leadership. He stated that the Senate, National Assembly, Prime Minister, and even the President are all acting outside the Constitution.
Contempt Petition Filed Against PM Shehbaz Sharif
In a separate legal development, former Chief Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja has filed a contempt petition in Pakistan’s Supreme Court against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The petition claims that the government failed to implement a Supreme Court order from May 7, which required changes in military court procedures.
The court had instructed the government to amend the law within 45 days, ensuring that civilians convicted by military courts get the right to appeal in a higher court. The petition argues that this order was ignored.
