Everything is not going well in China. A report claims that the Chinese Communist Party is looking for an alternative to Xi Jinping. The main reason for this is the ongoing economic and political crisis in China. Xi has been the president of China for the past two decades. However, his tenure has been full of controversies. In the past five years, several top leaders and officials in China have had to resign from their positions for various reasons. These include the Chinese Defense Minister, Foreign Minister, commanders of the People's Liberation Army Rocket Force, and several other top officials. In addition, China is also going through a serious economic crisis.
Party Now Sees Xi as a Burden!
According to a report by CNN-News18, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has started to consider Xi Jinping a burden for China’s long-term stability. As a result, it is now searching for new faces. The report, quoting sources, states that veteran leaders in the Communist Party are disappointed with Xi Jinping’s ideological rigidity and foreign policies. It further says that intelligence sources indicate the CCP wants to steer China away from ideological isolation and toward institutional reform. Although Xi Jinping remains in formal command, internal pressure on him is rising due to numerous failures.
Dissatisfaction with Xi Within the CCP!
The report also states that sources suggest Xi’s centralization of power and ideological campaigns have disillusioned key factions within the CCP. According to top intelligence assessments, constant surveillance on everyone is weakening China’s technological base and institutional morale. The removal of trusted officials like Li Shangfu and Qin Gang has further deepened internal insecurity. Intelligence sources indicate there is a consensus among the CCP and senior party leaders that Xi’s ideological model is no longer effective.
What Alternatives Does the Communist Party Have?
According to intelligence sources, General Zhang Youxia, First Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, has emerged as the real force behind the People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Although once considered loyal to Xi Jinping due to family ties, Zhang has now adopted an autonomous military stance without Xi, which is supported by senior CCP leaders from the Hu Jintao-Wen Jiabao era. Intelligence sources suggest Zhang’s increasing independence signals a new balance of power within the CCP. A major concern for the CCP is to establish the military as a stable institution.
Will China Bet on Wang Yang?
On the economic front, intelligence sources have also mentioned Wang Yang — a sidelined reformist and former Vice Premier. Wang Yang was a major leader during the Hu Jintao era. He is viewed as a technical alternative to Xi Jinping. Known for his economic expertise and clean governance record in Guangdong, Wang enjoys global acceptability. Although officially outside the power circle, intelligence sources emphasize that he is being seen as a prime candidate to succeed Xi Jinping. According to the sources, the main objective is to appoint someone who can restore confidence in China’s declining private sector, revive foreign investment, and reestablish policy predictability.
China May Escalate Border Tensions to Divert Attention
Top intelligence sources have noted that the CCP has two critical pillars: the military and the economy. Its goal is to align General Zhang Youxia’s military professionalism with technical cooperation centered around Wang Yang. If the military leans towards Zhang, the PLA may become more doctrine-driven and assertive in theaters like Ladakh, Taiwan, and the South China Sea. Intelligence sources warn that military confrontation remains a potential threat, which could be used as a distraction from domestic dissent.
