Plane Crash in Southern Mexico Claims Three Lives

Published: Jun 07, 2025

International News: Three people have lost their lives in a tragic crash of a small plane in southern Mexico. The plane was operating with two Guatemalan pilots and a Mexican crew member. They were all part of an important agricultural campaign aimed at controlling the larvae of the dangerous screwworm fly that harms cattle.

The plane was flying for fly control

The screwworm fly is an insect whose larvae enter the skin of animals and endanger their lives. Mexico and the US are running a joint campaign to stop its spread. This process involves releasing screwworm flies in a controlled manner so that their population can be controlled. The crashed plane was flying as part of this campaign.

Circumstances at the time of the accident

According to officials, the plane crashed while it was releasing screwworm flies. The full cause of the accident is not yet known, but initial investigations suggest a technical fault or sudden weather change. Rescue and investigation teams have reached the site of the incident, and the accident is being investigated in detail.
Tension between US and Mexico in control campaign

The campaign has been a long-standing collaboration between the US and Mexico, but recently some controversies have also surfaced over it. The US administration had accused Mexico of not allowing US-contracted aircraft to fly seven days a week, but only six days. Apart from this, the US side had also expressed displeasure over the import duties imposed by Mexico on aviation equipment and flight control material.

Mexican President's response

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum termed these allegations as unfair and said that the restrictions imposed on livestock imports would be lifted soon. She expressed her desire to continue cooperation with the US and expressed her resolve to make the campaign a success despite the controversies.

Fly control is important for animal husbandry

The larvae of the screwworm fly are fatal to animals, which badly affects their health and becomes a major cause of economic loss. For this reason, both the US and Mexico are continuously working together to fight this problem. Despite the accident, it has been decided to continue the operation so that the animal husbandry area can be kept safe.

Post-accident action

After the plane crash, the local administration immediately started relief and rescue operations. The families of the deceased have been assured of financial assistance and all possible help. Investigating agencies are thoroughly investigating the causes of the accident so that such accidents can be prevented in the future.
