Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to express deep concern over the growing tensions following recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Sharing the update on social media platform X, PM Modi said, "Spoke with President of Iran @drpezeshkian. We discussed in detail the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations." He stressed the importance of calming tensions through peaceful dialogue and diplomacy.
Call for Immediate De-escalation
PM Modi emphasized that the only way forward was through talks and peaceful negotiations. “Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,” he said. The conversation between the two leaders came after U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed “massive precision strikes” on Iran, stating that more actions could follow if the region did not stabilize.
Iran Reacts Strongly, India Monitors Situation
In response, Iran condemned the U.S. airstrikes, calling them a violation of international laws, particularly the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) said that nuclear facilities were attacked early Sunday and blamed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for failing to act. Iran also stated that the attacks would not stop their nuclear efforts. On the other side, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the U.S. strikes, saying that Trump's actions would have a long-lasting impact.
As the Israel-Iran conflict enters its ninth day, the involvement of the U.S. adds another layer to the situation. Meanwhile, India is focusing on the safety of its citizens, launching evacuation flights to bring back Indian nationals from the conflict zone.
