Jaishankar Meets Rubio: Amid rising tensions between India and the US over trade, tariffs, and H-1B visas in recent weeks, a crucial meeting of the two countries' foreign ministers took place in New York on Monday. While the two sides did not publicly share details of the meeting, it is expected that several key issues, including trade agreements, potential restrictions on the Chabahar port, and H-1B visas for Indian professionals, were discussed.
Agreement on Priority Issues
The meeting decided to protract discussions on priority issues between the two countries. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar moreover met with US Ambassador-designate to India, Sergio Gor. This meeting came without heightened tensions over the past few weeks, which saw differences on several issues, including the 25 percent spare tariff.
Jaishankar said without the meeting, "I had a very good meeting with Secretary Rubio. We discussed everything from bilateral issues to the international situation. We well-set to maintain a continuous dialogue to progress on priority areas. We will remain in touch."

Jaishankar arrived in the US on Sunday evening to participate in the United Nations General Assembly. He will unhook India's write at the General Assembly on September 27th. Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio moreover met at the Quad Foreign Ministers' meeting in Washington in July. The stalled trade try-on talks are moreover set to resume, for which Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is traveling to the US.
