120 Coffins in 24 Hours India Prepares Honorable Farewell for Air Crash Victims

Published: Jun 14, 2025

Ahmedabad Plane Crash: The painful death of over 200 people in the Air India aircraft accident, which shook the nation, has filled every heart with grief. Following this horrific tragedy, preparations are underway to give an honorable final farewell to the victims. As part of this effort, an institution in Vadodara has been given an emergency order to produce 120 coffins. Of these, 50 coffins will be transported to Ahmedabad today (14 June)—25 by 3 PM and the remaining 25 by night.

Artisans crafting coffins day and night

A team of 7–8 artisans at this Vadodara-based institution is working tirelessly, day and night, to make the coffins. Each coffin takes around 2 to 3 hours to construct. But the artisans say this is not merely a technical task; it is an emotional duty. One artisan said emotionally, “It’s hard to believe that so many people have died together. Still, we are doing our work with complete devotion, in their honor.”

Dedication in every layer: More than just wood

Special precautions are being taken at every stage of the coffin-making process. Each coffin is individually measured and crafted, keeping in mind the condition of the deceased and the appropriate dimensions. A special plastic bag is placed inside every coffin to ensure the body is protected from water and insects. These wooden coffins are designed to keep the remains completely safe until the final rites are performed.

50 coffins being dispatched today, 70 more in progress

The artisans worked late into the night yesterday and completed 25 coffins, which are being sent this afternoon. Another 25 will be dispatched by tonight. The remaining 70 coffins are expected to be prepared and delivered to Ahmedabad over the coming days. This tragedy has not only devastated the families of the victims but has also left a deep emotional impact on the artisans involved in this solemn work.

This is not just wood, it is a tribute...

These coffins are not merely wooden boxes. Within each one lies a silent tribute, a tear, and layers of respect. This accident has left a wound that will take time to heal — but through these coffins, the victims are being given the dignified farewell they deserve.
