A teenage girl from Puri district, Odisha, who was severely burned after being set on fire by unknown miscreants, has been moved to AIIMS Delhi for advanced medical care. She had been receiving treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, but due to the seriousness of her injuries, doctors recommended shifting her to the national capital.
Victim Suffered 70% Burns
The incident took place in Balanga, under the Nimapada block of Puri. The 15-year-old girl suffered around 70% burns. Despite her condition, she was conscious and able to speak. Acting on the doctors’ recommendation, the Odisha government arranged for her to be airlifted to Delhi on Saturday for better medical treatment.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “We are closely monitoring the situation. The government is ready to provide any support necessary. The girl is being shifted to Delhi for advanced care.”
Police Investigation Underway
Chief Minister Majhi confirmed that a police investigation is ongoing to find out who is behind the brutal act. He added that if any conspiracy is uncovered, the culprits will face strict legal action.
“No one responsible will be spared,” he stated firmly.
Opposition Criticises Government
The shocking incident has drawn strong criticism from opposition leader and former CM Naveen Patnaik. He accused the current BJP-led state government of failing to protect women, saying that crimes against women are being reported almost daily across Odisha.
This case follows another tragic incident in Balasore, where a female college student attempted self-immolation on July 12. She suffered over 90% burns and passed away two days later at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The attack on the Puri teenager has raised serious concerns about women's safety in Odisha. As investigations continue, the state awaits justice for the victim while hoping for her recovery.
