National News: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has taken a sharp dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the severe waterlogging caused by light rain in the national capital. AAP's Delhi Pradesh President, Saurabh Bhardwaj, directly held the BJP responsible, stating that Delhi’s drainage system has completely collapsed due to the failure of institutions under BJP control.
Bhardwaj alleged that every major civic body in Delhi—MCD, NDMC, DDA, and even the Delhi Government—is now under BJP rule. “Now BJP can no longer blame others,” he said. He further leveled serious accusations of corruption and negligence against the Lieutenant Governor (LG) and senior officials, asserting that drain cleaning has been reduced to mere paperwork, with no substantial work on the ground.
“Drain Cleaning Exists Only in Files, Not on the Ground”
According to Bhardwaj, in the past two years, the drain-cleaning efforts have been superficial and riddled with mismanagement. He claimed that, during his tenure as Urban Development Minister, he had exposed irregularities in the process. However, the LG failed to order an inquiry, allegedly for “his own reasons.” As a result, Delhi is now flooding even before the monsoon has officially begun. Bhardwaj called this criminal negligence and demanded a direct response from the LG.
“CM Rekha Gupta’s Promise Was a Lie”
The AAP also targeted BJP's Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. Bhardwaj pointed out that, in a March interview, Gupta had confidently claimed that Delhi would not witness waterlogging this monsoon. “But even after just four spells of rain, the city has come to a standstill—massive traffic jams, submerged roads, and more than nine reported deaths expose the complete failure of the BJP government,” he said.
“Four Engines of BJP, Yet No Direction”
Bhardwaj reiterated that BJP now controls all four key engines in Delhi — the MCD, NDMC, DDA, and the Delhi Government. “Despite such absolute control, the city continues to suffer. The BJP can’t hide behind excuses anymore,” he asserted. He also criticized CM Rekha Gupta, claiming that her recent statements appear absurd and desperate, stemming from her own awareness of her administration’s failure.
“AAP Took Steps for Transparency, BJP Blocked Them”
Highlighting the AAP government's efforts, Bhardwaj revealed that he had instructed a third-party audit of drain-cleaning operations, involving then Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and PWD Secretary Ambarsu. He said video evidence exists to support these instructions. Yet, despite repeated requests, no action was taken by the BJP-appointed LG against the responsible officials.
“Delhi Won’t Tolerate Another Corrupt Monsoon”
Concluding his statement, Bhardwaj warned that the people of Delhi will not tolerate another monsoon marked by administrative apathy and corruption. The AAP has demanded full accountability from BJP-controlled institutions and the Lieutenant Governor. “This time, Delhi’s citizens will raise their voices if governance continues to rot under the weight of incompetence,” the AAP said in a strongly worded statement.
