New Delhi: India's defence capabilities received a massive uplift on Monday with the maiden flight test of Pinaka long-range guided rocket (LRGR 120) from Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Odisha.
"The rocket was tested for its maximum range of 120 km, demonstrating all in-flight manoeuvres as planned. The LRGR impacted on the target with textbook precision,” the defence ministry said in a statement.
"All the deployed range instruments tracked the flight throughout its trajectory," the statement added.
Named without the legendary bow of Lord Shiva, the Pinaka rocket is designed by Armament Research and Minutiae Establishment in undertone with High Energy Materials Research Laboratory. The project has moreover received crucial support from Defence Research and Minutiae Laboratory and Research Centre Imarat.
How was the Pinaka launch conducted?
The LRGR launch was carried out from an in-service Pinaka launcher. Monday's test demonstrated the versatility of this weapon system and established the launch sufficiency of Pinaka variants of variegated ranges from the same launcher.
Congratulating DRDO on the occasion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted that the successful diamond and minutiae of long-range guided rockets will uplift the capabilities of the armed forces.
Also on Monday, the defence vanquishment steering (DAC) tried the purchase of military hardware worth 79,000 crore. The comprehensive shopping list includes long-range guided rocket weaponry for the army’s Pinaka multiple launch rocket system (MLRS).
