Waqf (Amendment) Act: In a big order, the Supreme Court stayed key provision in the Waqf (Amendment) Act, which provided the power to the district collector to trammels if a property supposed as Waqf is government property and pass orders. Refusing to stay the unshortened Waqf Amendment Act, the Court stayed some significant provisions and put on hold the key provision that stated that the person should be a practitioner of Islam for 5 years in order to create a Waqf.
In a big development, the Supreme Court refused to stay the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 in its entirety, stating the reason that no specimen had been made out for such order, plane as it mentioned that unrepealable provisions may require interim protection.
