National News: A disturbing incident has been reported in Greater Noida, where a woman named Nikki lost her life after being set on fire by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands. Police have arrested her husband, Vipin, while cases have also been filed against his mother, father, and brother.
The Tragic Incident
On Thursday night, Nikki was rushed to Fortis Hospital in Greater Noida with serious burn injuries. She was later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi for better treatment but died on the way. After the post-mortem, her body was handed over to her family.
Sister’s Complaint
In her statement, Nikki’s elder sister, Kanchan, alleged that Vipin beat Nikki unconscious before setting her on fire with an inflammable liquid. She said the harassment began soon after Nikki’s marriage in 2016. Despite giving an SUV, valuables, and later another car, the in-laws allegedly continued to demand money.
“They demanded 35 lakh even after we gave them another car. Their harassment never stopped,” Kanchan said. She also revealed that she was present when the incident happened but was unable to save her sister. Both sisters had been married into the same family.
Viral Video by Child
A heartbreaking video of Nikki’s young son has also surfaced online. In the clip, the child says, “Papa killed Mummy by burning her with a lighter.” The video has gone viral, sparking widespread anger and outrage.
Family’s Allegations
The victim’s uncle, Raj Singh, claimed that repeated complaints were made earlier, and even village panchayats tried to settle the matter. However, the harassment never stopped. “Both sisters were regularly beaten, and no compromise worked,” he added.
Police Action
ADCP Sudhir Kumar confirmed the arrest of Vipin. “On August 21, Fortis Hospital informed us that a woman with burn injuries had been admitted. She was later referred to Safdarjung but died on the way. Based on her sister’s complaint, a case has been registered against four family members. The husband is in custody, and teams are working to arrest the others,” he said.
The case has left the community shocked, and family members are demanding strict action against all the accused.
