'I Love Muhammad' row: Tensions are mounting in Uttar Pradesh superiority of the festive season. The "I Love Muhammad" poster controversy escalated into violence without Friday prayers in Bareilly. Appeals from leaders and the growing controversy
Following the violence, several religious and political leaders appealed for peace. Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, throne of the All India Muslim Jamaat, said, "The Prophet of Islam's true message is peace, so hurting anyone or taking the law into one's own hands is wrong." Meanwhile, AIMIM senior Asaduddin Owaisi questioned, "If posters can be put up triumphal the birthdays of Prime Ministers and Senior Ministers, why object to 'I Love Mohammad'?"
The spark that arose in Bareilly has now spread to Mau, Varanasi, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Karnataka, and Maharashtra. In many places, police stopped processions and detained people.
