National News: Comedian Kunal Kamra, on Thursday, made fun of the recent chaos in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, where members of the Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar faction (NCP-SP) and Bharatiya Janata Party got into a physical brawl. Social media users saw Kamra's clip, which included instances of the fight set to his controversial song "Hum Honge Kamyaab". In an apparent jab at the ruling Mahayuti alliance, the video, which was captioned 'lawbreakers', also featured images of Maharashtra's deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
"Hum Honge Kamyaab" song used again by Kamra
The video's song is the same one he used in his March stand-up special Naya Bharat, in which he called Eknath Shinde a "gaddar" (traitor), triggering strong protests from Shinde's camp. Members of the Yuva Sena, the Shiv Sena's youth wing, criticised Kamra after his stand-up special earlier this year. The Habitat Comedy Club in the Khar neighbourhood of Mumbai, where Kamra had recorded and performed, was then vandalised.
Kamra's new clip on social media
He seems to be continuing his criticism of the state's political leadership with this new clip. Known for his quirky political sarcasm, Kunal Kamra had previously declined to issue an apology in the midst of controversy. He had criticised the violence with firmness.
Brawl outside Maharashtra Assembly
Kamra's post follows a dispute that occurred at the Maharashtra Legislature complex on Thursday between supporters of NCP-SP leader Jitendra Awhad and BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar. Members of the two groups engaged in a furious brawl outside the Assembly in the video, which went viral. Jitendra Awhad, Former Minister of Housing of Maharashtra.
Uddhav Thackeray criticised the Mahayuti government
The Mahayuti government was condemned by Uddhav Thackeray, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), who said, “If goons have reached Vidhan Sabha, then state home minister and chief minister (Devendra Fadnavis) should take responsibility for it. This is very unfortunate. Such conduct at the Vidhan Sabha is not appropriate.”
Nana Patole urges immediate action
“We condemn the incident. Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha has always had a tradition... Our examples are cited and taken pride in across the country. But what happened on the Vidhan Sabha premises today should not happen again – the Assembly Speaker and the CM should take care of this,” said the Congress MLA.
