National News: The country is going to get a new vice president soon. After the resignation of the current Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, the process of the Vice Presidential Election 2025 has started. Giving a big update on Thursday, the Election Commission said that the preparations for the Electoral College have been completed and the related list has been finalized.
Dhankhar Resigns, Election Process Begins
It is worth noting that on July 21, Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post of vice president, citing health reasons. He said in his letter, "Following medical advice and giving priority to health, I resign from the post of Vice President of India with immediate effect."
Just two days after his resignation, the Election Commission has started the process of electing a new vice president. Under Article 324 of the Indian Constitution, the Election Commission has been given the responsibility of conducting the vice presidential election.

EC Finalizes 2025 VP Electoral List
The Election Commission informed on Twitter (formerly Twitter) that the list of the Electoral College for the Vice Presidential Election 2025 has been finalized. The Commission said in the press note that this list has been prepared in a sequential manner according to the state/union territory, and it includes elected members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and nominated members of Rajya Sabha.
The press note further said that as per Rule 40 of the Presidential and Vice Presidential Election Rules, 1974, the Commission has to prepare an updated list of the Electoral College, which also includes the recent addresses of all the members.
