National News: On Tuesday, heavy overnight rains caused flood-like conditions in two border districts, Rajouri and Poonch, prompting authorities to close schools. People were advised to avoid water bodies and excessive travel on mountainous routes. The weatherman predicts heavy rains across the Jammu division until July 25. Following heavy rainfall in Rajouri district, water levels in the Darhali and Saktoh rivers rose significantly.
As a precautionary measure, the Rajouri district administration has ordered the closure of all government and private schools in the district on Tuesday. The situation was similar in the Poonch district. However, no casualties or substantial damage have been reported thus far.
Situation addressed in a meeting
Ramesh Kumar, elevated the Jammu divisional commissioner held a meeting to assess the situation. He examined the repair and restoration projects launched by the district government. Kumar further asked the deputy commissioners to set up 24x7 control rooms for fast response and assistance.
IMD issues guidance bulletin
On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a flash flood guidance bulletin, warning of a low to moderate risk of flash floods in several districts, including Kathua, Samba, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, Baramulla, and Anantnag, over the next day.
DDMAs urged to take necessary precautions
The District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have been asked to take the required procedures and measures to protect the people and reduce hazards. The MeT department has issued a weather advisory for July 22-25, warning of severe to very heavy rainfall in isolated to scattered areas across the Jammu division.
4 Amarnath pilgrims injured
Meanwhile, four Amarnath pilgrims sustained minor injuries after their vehicle collided with another during a descending procession in the Ramban area. A police official stated that the bus they were riding in collided with the parapet wall at Seri's T-2 Tunnel owing to a faulty brake system." The injured were moved to Ramban Hospital. "After some time, they resumed their descent to Jammu," he added.
