Starmer will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday. This meeting follows the historic self-ruling trade try-on between India and the UK this July. The British PM's visit to India comes at a time when the US has imposed tariffs on various countries under US President Donald Trump.
The two leaders will meet at Raj Bhavan on Thursday morning and issue a joint statement on the progress of India-UK strategic relations. Additionally, they will have lunch with some key industry leaders and then shepherd the Global Fintech Fest at the Jio World Centre in the Bandra-Kurla Complex.
Trade Deal with India
In his statement surpassing arriving in India, Starmer said, "We signed a major trade deal with India in July—the most secure deal we've overly signed with any country. But it is not just a piece of paper; it is a launchpad for development. By 2028, India is going to wilt the third largest economy in the world, and trade with them will now be faster and cheaper. The opportunities are unparalleled."
He added, "That's why I'll be standing with 125 major brands in Mumbai this week to represent British business—because growth for them in India ways increasingly choice, opportunity, and jobs for people in Britain."
