National News: The Punjab government is rapidly enhancing the scope and efficiency of Aam Aadmi Clinics across the state. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, five new healthcare services are set to be launched soon. These include:
- Regular health checkups for pregnant women
- Screening and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, diabetes, and oral cancer
- Family planning and reproductive health services
- Early detection and management of malnutrition in children
- Anti-rabies vaccination for dog bite cases
Second Phase of Training Completed for Doctors
As part of the expansion plan, doctors posted at all Aam Aadmi Clinics in Mohali district underwent second-phase training, which concluded successfully today. Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain stated that the addition of these services will allow citizens to access essential healthcare closer to their homes. She emphasized that this initiative would reduce the need for people to travel long distances for basic treatments, saving both time and money.
Focus on Medicines and Equipment
During the training session, Director of Procurement Dr. Pawanpreet Kaur engaged with the medical staff to discuss the availability of essential medicines, medical equipment, and diagnostic kits. She confirmed that Aam Aadmi Clinics will soon be equipped with state-of-the-art tools for NCD screening and management, as well as enhanced resources for treating malnutrition in children and administering rabies vaccines.
Experts Share Knowledge on Public Health Protocols
Health specialists, including District Vaccination Officer Dr. Girish Dogra, District Family Welfare Officer Dr. Tamanna Singhal, Epidemiologist Dr. Anamika Soni, Medical Specialist Dr. Ishan Sharma, and Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, delivered sessions on disease identification, early diagnosis, and basic treatment protocols. These expert-led discussions aimed to strengthen the capacity of doctors to handle a wider range of public health needs at the primary level.
117 free medicines and 48 types of lab tests already available
Currently, 40 Aam Aadmi Clinics are fully operational in the Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) district, providing free consultation, 48 different lab tests, and 117 essential medicines at no cost to patients. The state government envisions these clinics as a vital step toward ensuring affordable, accessible, and high-quality healthcare for every resident of Punjab.
