National News: One of the biggest concepts of Delhi Metro—the Ring Corridor—has now taken shape. The 13.391 km long metro section to be built between Maujpur and Majlis Park is completely ready. Finishing work on only five stations is left. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) claims that metro trains will start running on this section by the end of the year 2025.
What is special about this new section?
This corridor is one of the most important projects of Phase 4. With this, the Pink Line of Delhi Metro, which currently goes from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar, will now become completely circular (ring). Currently this line is 59.29 km long and connects 38 stations.
The new section will connect Maujpur to Majlis Park directly, allowing the metro network to function as a ring without interruption. A total of 8 stations are being built on this corridor, of which trial runs have been successfully completed on three.
Another metro bridge over Yamuna, using special technology for the first time
One of the biggest engineering achievements of this new route is the new metro bridge over Yamuna, located between Soorghat and Sonia Vihar close to the Signature Bridge. The bridge is 560 meters long and has been constructed using balanced cantilever technology—used for the first time in the Delhi Metro.
This technology is adopted at places where traditional bridge construction is not possible. The work of laying metro tracks, signal cables, and overhead equipment (OHE) on the bridge has now been completed.
Double-decker metro and flyover combo from Bhajanpura to Yamuna Vihar
A unique part of this corridor is the 1.4 km long double-decker section, located between Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar. Metro tracks have been built above and a Public Works Department (PWD) flyover below. However, the work on the ramp connecting the flyover to the road is stalled due to non-receipt of permission to remove some trees.
Delhi now has five metro bridges across the Yamuna
With this bridge, the fifth bridge of the Delhi Metro has been completed on the Yamuna river. Earlier, bridges have been built at Shastri Park (Red Line), Yamuna Bank (Blue Line), Kalindi Kunj (Magenta Line), and Nizamuddin (Pink Line). This new bridge is not only a technological marvel but will also give a new direction to the connectivity of millions of commuters of East Delhi.
This new section of the Delhi Metro is not just an infrastructure project but a new engine in the speed of the city. Once it becomes operational, Delhi will get its first complete ring metro corridor, which will bring a new hope of freedom from traffic jams, time, and hassle.
