National News: In the case of alleged assault on a doctor at Acharya Shri Bhikshu Hospital in Delhi, no FIR has yet been registered against BJP MLA Harish Khurana. Nearly 40 doctors have lodged written complaints, but the police have not taken any action so far. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly criticized the delay and accused the BJP of protecting its MLA instead of supporting the medical fraternity.
AAP Approaches Police Commissioner
AAP Delhi State Convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj said that despite repeated efforts, party MLAs have not been able to get an appointment with the Police Commissioner. “Doctors are the backbone of society, and any insult or attack on them will not be tolerated. More than 40 doctors have complained, yet the police have failed to register an FIR,” he said.
Bhardwaj Questions Double Standards
Bhardwaj compared the case with the recent attack attempt on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, in which the accused was immediately arrested and charged with attempt to murder. “If such swift action can be taken to protect the CM, why is the law silent when an MLA beats up a government doctor?” he asked. He further questioned why the hospital administration has not yet filed an institutional FIR, as per the protocol adopted after the RG Kar Medical College incident.
Sanjeev Jha Writes to Home Minister
AAP MLA from Burari, Sanjeev Jha, has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding strict action. In his letter, he said that an attack by an elected representative on duty doctors is not only shameful but also dangerous for democracy and law and order. “If lawmakers themselves behave in this manner, it sends a very wrong message to society,” Jha noted.
Call for Immediate FIR and Doctor Safety
Jha highlighted that the RG Kar Medical College incident in Kolkata had already triggered a nationwide strike by doctors over safety concerns. He said ensuring the protection of doctors has now become a national priority. He demanded an immediate FIR against Harish Khurana and stronger measures to safeguard doctors and healthcare workers.
AAP Seeks Meeting with Amit Shah
Sanjeev Jha, along with an AAP delegation, has sought a meeting with the Union Home Minister to raise the issue in detail. “The medical community must feel secure while serving the public. The government should take strict and fair action so that such incidents do not recur,” he said. Various doctors’ associations have also extended their support to the aggrieved doctors and demanded justice.
