Political Shakeup Govindraju Removed as Siddaramaiahs Secretary

Published: Jun 06, 2025

National News: In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the victory of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) turned into a huge tragedy when a stampede occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. In this incident, 11 people lost their lives and dozens were injured. After this painful accident, the Karnataka government has taken tough steps regarding the huge lapse in the administration and security system.

Strict action against police officers

In the stampede incident, the negligence and mismanagement of the police has come to light. Due to this, the Bangalore Police Commissioner, DCP of the Central Division, ACP (West), and Local Inspector have been suspended with immediate effect. These officers were handling the security system and crowd control, but their guilty behavior caused this crowd.

CM's political secretary Govindraju removed from the post

The Karnataka government has now removed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's political secretary and Congress MLC Govindraju from his post. Govindraju is considered very close to the Chief Minister, so the news of his removal remains a matter of discussion in political circles. However, the government has not yet made any formal reason behind it.

Allegations & controversy: Govindraju put pressure on police

According to sources, Govindraju called the police commissioner and pressured them to allow programs to celebrate RCB's victory. The police commissioner had expressed apprehension about these programs due to security reasons and said that there was a problem in the crowd control due to two programs.

Union Minister and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy blamed Govindraju in this case. He said that Govindraju spoke to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who gave oral orders and allowed the programs.

Heavy resentment in cabinet meeting

The Karnataka cabinet also saw a deep fury against Govindraju. In the cabinet meeting held on Thursday, several ministers expressed displeasure over the matter and strongly criticized the role of Govindraju. It is believed that under this pressure, the government removed him from the post.

ADGP Intelligence Hemant Nimbalkar also transferred

The Karnataka government has also transferred ADGP Intelligence Hemant Nimbalkar. He was accused of the government delaying action against him because his wife is a former Congress MLA. This step is being seen as an attempt to increase transparency and accountability in administration.

How did the stampede happen?

When the celebration of RCB's victory started outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, a huge crowd gathered. Due to the weak security system, the crowd could not be controlled and stampeded. 11 people died in this accident and many people were seriously injured. After the accident, questions were raised about security and administrative responsibility.

Government's next strategy

After this incident, the Karnataka government has resolved to strictly implement the security protocol. Instructions will be issued to strengthen the security system during such congested public events in future so that there is no such tragedy again.

Sad example of administrative negligence

This incident in Bengaluru is a tragic example of administrative negligence, political pressure, and lack of security. Now the question arises whether determining the accountability of officials and leaders will be able to ensure a safe environment for the general public in the country. The action of the Karnataka government is being widely seen and it is expected that such incidents will be avoided with better security arrangements in the future.
