National News: Raja Raghuvasnshi Murder Case: Indore's newlywed Sonam Raghuvanshi has confessed to plotting the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. This sensational disclosure has been made by sources of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police. Sonam had planned to kill her husband during their honeymoon in Meghalaya's Shillong. The incident happened on 23 May, when the couple was trekking in the forests of Meghalaya.
The couple tie the knot of marriage on 11 May, 2025, in Indore. Just a week after the marriage, on 20 May, both arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon. . On 21 May, they stayed at Balaji Guest House in Shillong. The next day, on 22 May they rented a scooty and left for Cherrapunji (Sohra). On 23 May, they went to see the Double Decker Living Root Bridge near Nongrit village. This is where the honeymoon turned into a horrific conspiracy.
Sonam Raghuvanshi reveals the conspiracy
According to the SIT, Sonam planned the murder along with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three friends—Akash Rajput, Vishal Chauhan and Anand Kurmi. Raj Kushwaha worked in Sonam's family business in Indore. He did not go to Shillong to avoid suspicion but maintained contact between the killers and Sonam. The three killers reached Shillong by different routes. They were identified through CCTV footage, train tickets and Aadhaar cards.
On 23 May, the killers joined the couple on a trek. Guide Albert PD saw them talking in Hindi. He offered help, but they refused and chose a deserted route. Investigators say Sonam led Raja to the valley on the pretext of a beautiful photo spot. There the attackers attacked Raja with a sharp weapon. Sonam also allegedly assisted in the crime. Raja’s body was dumped in a ditch and was recovered on 2 June.
Sonam’s arrest
After the murder, Sonam travelled from Shillong to Guwahati and then to Indore by train. From there, she went to Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered on 8 June. The police detained her at the Nandaganj police station. Four more accused—Raj Kushwaha, Akash, Vishal and Anand—were also arrested. They all were brought to Shillong and produced in court. The court sent all five to an 8-day police remand.
