National News: The pictures that emerged after the tragic Air India plane crash on Gujarat's BJ Medical College campus were spine-chilling. When people were trying to save their lives amid the building engulfed in flames, chaos, and screams, there was one team that was ready to risk its life to save lives—the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).
The SDRF teams rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and launched rescue and relief operations without wasting a single moment. The place where the plane crashed had unbearable temperatures, and the smoke was suffocating. In this perilous situation, SDRF personnel entered the blazing building equipped with oxygen masks and wet cloths wrapped around their hands, driven by a single mission—to save as many lives as possible.
SDRF jawans became an example of bravery
The SDRF team not only rescued the people alive but also carried the burnt and injured people on their shoulders to the hospital. Entering the fire and smoke was not an easy task, but the courage and intelligence with which these jawans carried out the relief work is beyond praise.
Burnt bodies, but not courage
State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) nodal officer and SDRF ASP Sheetal Gujjar said, "Despite the burns on the hands and feet of many SDRF personnel, they continued to rescue people. We put on oxygen masks and tied wet clothes on our hands and rescued the people trapped in the fire."
According to her, the most challenging task was to rescue the citizens and students trapped in the hostel building, where there was also a danger of the roof collapsing. But the team took the risk and rescued everyone safely.
The spirit of humanity breaking through the wall of fire
The fire brigade team at the site provided the necessary technical support to SDRF and arranged for safe entry into the building. After this, both the departments together carried out relief work rapidly. Dozens of people were admitted to the hospital, some of whom are in critical condition, but their lives were saved due to timely help.
Safety of every citizen is the priority of SDRF
Sheetal Gujjar said, "Our aim is not only to rescue but also to build public confidence regarding public safety." SDRF is always alert and is trained to deal with any such disaster." He said that SDRF will stand at the forefront in times of disaster in the future too, be it fire, earthquake, or plane crash.
The role of SDRF in this tragic accident at BJ Medical College was no less than that of a film hero. Where fire tried to swallow life, SDRF kept the flame of humanity burning. The presence of such teams is the biggest strength of our society.
