The Telangana reactor blast that occurred on Monday has now taken away 35 lives. The tragedy had initially claimed 12 lives and injured several others. Rescue teams are continuing their operation and making sure that no one is trapped under the debris. A total of 34 people are undergoing operations in the hospital. About 90 people were working at the pharma plant of Sigachi Industries, located in Pashamylaram, when the mishappening took place, said the state health minister, C. Damodar Rajnarasimha.
How did the blast happen?
The blast could've happened because of the increasing pressure in the drying unit of the plant. Director General of the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services said, "Industrial experts are saying that during the drying process, or a handling process, the pressure could have built up, followed by the blasting of the material, which led to the blasting of the entire handling unit as well as the industrial building.” Labor Minister G. Vivek Venkataswamy said that the 34 workers are critical and put on ventilators in the hospitals. The burns because of the tragedy have affected their respiratory system.
PM Modi's statement
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the mishap. He gave condolences to those who lost their lives in the tragedy. In a post on X, PM announced an ex gratia of 2 lakhs from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the next of kin of the victim and 50,000 for those injured. Chief Minister of the Telangana state A. Revanth Reddy expressed his agony and asked the officials to save all the trapped workers. The company accounted for the loss of lives and extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. The firm is extending all possible support to those affected, it added.
