Djokovic Eyes 25th Grand Slam Despite Injury Scare at Wimbledon

Published: Jul 10, 2025

Sports News: Novak Djokovic took a terrible fall on Wimbledon's Centre Court during his quarterfinal match against Flavio Cobolli on Wednesday. The seven-time champion won the match 6-7(6), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4, but his fall has left the 38-year-old reflecting on his body and how it responds ahead of Friday's highly anticipated quarterfinal against Jannik Sinner. After winning the match, Djokovic, who is chasing his eighth Wimbledon title and a record 25th Grand Slam trophy, admitted that his body isn't the same as it was before.

Djokovic's fall

On match point, the No. 6 seed slipped at the back of the court while his opponent and umpire raced to check on him. Although Djokovic recovered fast and advanced to the semifinals, there are still questions about his health and conditioning. However, given his unwavering attitude and ambition to claim the much-anticipated Wimbledon trophy, which would see him tie Roger Federer's record, Djokovic is unlikely to give in during the semifinals.

Body not the same as before, says Djokovic

After the fall, Djokovic admitted that his body is not the same as it was before. Commenting on his fall, he said, "In terms of the fall, it was a nasty fall. It was very awkward. That happens on the grass. I've had quite a few of those throughout my grass-court career," said Djokovic, before adding, “Obviously, the body is not the same today as it was before, so I guess the real impact or effect of what happened I will feel tomorrow. So let's see."

Post-match interview

"I finished the match," said Novak Djokovic while laughing during the post-match on-court interview. The tennis sensation then expressed a bit of surprise. He said, “I did not fall so far this year. It is surprising because of the way I move on grass—very aggressively—you expect to fall and to have these situations.”
