RCB Celebration Sparks Safety Concerns Again, Linked to Gautam Gambhirs Old Statement

Published: Jun 05, 2025

Sports News: In IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Punjab Kings and won the IPL title for the first time. After a long wait of 18 years, this victory filled the fans with tremendous enthusiasm. A grand celebration program was held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on 4 June to celebrate this historic victory of the team. Thousands of people gathered in the celebration. It is estimated that about 2.5 lakh people gathered around the stadium. But there was a stampede due to lack of control over the crowd. 11 people lost their lives in this painful accident, while 33 people were injured, who are undergoing treatment.

Gautam Gambhir's 2014 statement went viral again

After this incident, an old statement of Gautam Gambhir on social media became viral again. Gambhir expressed displeasure over the misbehavior with fans at the honor ceremony held after the Kolkata Knight Riders' victory in 2014. He had said that he is fed up with such events where fans are inconvenienced.

Gambhir wrote: "I have to say that I was disappointed with the inconvenience caused to the people of Kolkata from KKR's honor ceremony. Cricket fans are the most important in India, but they are not good with them. God will win my team many trophies, but we will stay away from a celebration where the public has trouble."

Virat Kohli expressed grief, said- security is most important

RCB's most popular player Virat Kohli also expressed deep condolences on the incident. He shared the official statement released by RCB on his social media account and wrote - "I do not have words. It is very sad. Fans should get a chance to celebrate, but their safety is most important. The organizers should work seriously on it."

Madan Lal raised demand for trial

Madan Lal, a member of the 1983 World Cup winning team, blamed the RCB and the Karnataka government for the accident. He said that no proper arrangement was made for such a large crowd. "When people were dying outside, it was being celebrated inside. It is shocking. The families of the deceased should get a compensation of Rs 100 crore and a case should be filed against the government and RCB," he said.

Will the way of celebration change in future?

This incident is a tough lesson that the celebration of victory in cricket cannot be bigger than the life of fans. Now the time has come for the organizers, teams and state governments to take responsibility for such programs where security is paramount. So that the celebration of the game in future never becomes mourning for a family.
