Shubman Gill, Team India Share Light Moments with King Charles III Post Lords Defeat

Published: Jul 16, 2025

Sports News: A day after Shubman Gill's India lost an exciting Test match to England at Lord's, King Charles III met with the Indian men's and women's cricket teams at St James's Palace. Currently, both teams are in England. The women's team is playing a white-ball series against the hosts, while the men's squad is playing a five-Test series. India lost a winnable Test at Lord’s, failing to chase a 192-run target after their top and middle order batters crumbled under pressure against a spirited English bowling attack.

However, Jadeja held firm and added close to 90 runs with the last three wickets to take India to the doorstep of a famous win, only for Shoaib Bashir to dismiss Mohammed Siraj in the final session.

King Charles meets the Indian team

On Monday, the last day of the third Test, the men's team lost heartbreakingly, falling behind 1-2 in the series. A day later, King Charles III was met at the Clarence House Garden by a number of people, including head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Gill, vice-captain Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul. The members of the travelling group engaged in conversation and experienced amusing moments with King Charles. After the devastating loss, Gill, who was unable to score in the third Test, stated King Charles felt sorry for the Indian cricket team.

Captain Gill speaks

“It was amazing to meet King Charles III, and he was very kind and generous to call us. We had some really good conversations. King Charles III told us that the way our last batsman got out in the previous test match was quite unfortunate, the ball rolling on the stumps. We told him that it was an unfortunate match for us and could have gone either way. Hopefully, we will have better luck in both the next games,” Gill said.

Next test, Manchester

India will play their fourth test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. With 2-1 down in the five-match series, this is India's chance to stay alive in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The match will begin on Wednesday, 23rd July. England have already announced their squad and have included Liam Dawson in place of the injured Shoaib Bashir.
