Whew! How fantastic a Durga Puja it was! The beats of the dhaak are still ringing in my ears and the pictures of those beautiful pandals continue dancing in my eyes. But it always comes after all that excitement and family time, I have this kind of pang, the feeling of happiness and fatigue. My body and my mind are screaming of something new.
And, as you are likely to think, like me, what next? Oh, the ideal solution, I think, would be a day out. The weather is only becoming beautiful and the tourist attractions have been cleared. It’s the ideal time to explore! Therefore, I have created my own list of the Post-Puja getaways from kolkata. These have been destinations that I have visited and enjoyed and I believe you will too.
Top 5 Short Trip in Kolkata After Post Puja
These are my unreserved favorite spots to unwind after the Puja craze.
1. Darjeeling
The journey is part of the fun. I adore the ride by the Toy Train of New Jalpaiguri. It drags at a slow pace providing stunning sceneries of tea gardens and valleys. It’s a magical experience!
Activities that are a must: Tea Gardens, Toy Train, Sunrise at Tiger Hill: You can not avoid the sunrise at Tiger hill. Rising early is completely justified when you can view the initial beams of sun light on the great Kanchenjunga peak. It’s a sight I’ll never forget. Then, take one day off and go to a tea garden. I went around the beautiful green vegetation and was taught the process of making my favorite cup of tea. The fragrance of fresh tea leaves is marvelous!

2. Sundarbans: Wilderness Holiday (Post Pujas).
This is the largest mangrove forest in the world and it is a UNESCO World Heritage. I did a miniature boat tour and it was a case of entry into a nature documentary. The only thing that breaks this silence is the sound of birds and water lapping into the boat.
The Thrill of seeing the Royal Bengal Tiger: The greatest thrill is, naturally, to see the Royal Bengal Tiger when there is a Puja rush. It is not easy to get a glimpse of a tiger, but the prospect makes it all thrilling. I had beheld wonderful deer, crocodiles and many birds. It is an experience of humility that puts to mind the strength of nature.
3. Purulia: A Cultural and Scenic Post-Festival Break
I was mesmerized by the ancient terracotta temples and the peaceful dams like the Bamni Falls. The people are wonderful, and the landscape is unique. It’s a great place for photographers and anyone interested in local art and culture.
4. Mayapur
Mayapur is a Vaishnava pilgrimage, the seat of ISKCON and a place of intersection of the rivers, Ganga and Jalangi. Why Go: It is a peaceful and spiritually imbued environment and there are also a great number of foreign and local worshipers present. The ISKCON Chandrodaya Temple and the Sri Chaitanya Math provide the best season of October to March to visit and experience the serenity.

I enjoy strolling on wet low tide Mandarmani beach sand in the hard sand. You can walk for miles! A sound of the waves is the most suitable therapy to resort to after the loud Puja festivals. Digha is painted in an old world charm and you can have fresh and good seafood by the sea. It’s a simple, joyful escape.
A Spiritual and Scenic Tour: Shantiniketan
It seems that the cultural celebrations are continued in the sense of visiting Shantiniketan post-Puja. It is the town of Rabindranath Tagore, which is full of art, music and tranquility.
