India Now Exports Toys to 153 Countries Piyush Goyal

Published: Jul 04, 2025

India’s toy industry has witnessed a remarkable turnaround, moving from being largely import-dependent to becoming a major exporter. This achievement was presented by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at Friday's 16th Toy Biz International B2B Expo 2025.

Policy Support and Quality Standards Boost Growth

Goyal credited the progress to strong government policies, better enforcement of quality standards, and the growth of domestic manufacturing hubs. He pointed out that the introduction of the Quality Control Order (QCO) played a key role in improving product quality, helping Indian toy makers meet international standards.

With a large domestic population of 1.4 billion, Goyal said India has a built-in market that provides manufacturers with the ability to scale production, reduce costs, and compete globally.

Branding, Packaging, and Design are Key

To succeed worldwide, Goyal encouraged toy makers to focus on improving branding, packaging, and product design. These elements, he said, are essential for increasing the appeal of Indian toys in international markets.

The minister also linked the growth of the toy industry to India’s broader economic progress. He recalled how Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vocal for Local campaign initially faced doubts, but has since created awareness about supporting local businesses.

Support for Startups and Toy Clusters

According to Goyal, the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, which now provides loans without collateral for a maximum of 20 years, has helped small toy companies.  Additionally, the Ministry of MSME has provided support to 18 toy manufacturing clusters throughout India in an effort to promote domestic manufacture.

New Scheme on the Horizon

Looking ahead, Goyal announced that the government is preparing a new promotional scheme for the toy sector. This program will support improvements in product design, packaging, manufacturing quality, and brand development to help Indian toys compete at a global level.

He concluded by saying he was confident that India's toy business is prepared to leave a lasting impression on the world stage as long as it continues to prioritise quality, innovation, and market reach.
