Bangladesh: A 28-year-old Hindu autorickshaw suburbanite was tamed to death late Sunday night in Feni district of Bangladesh, police said.
The soul of Samir Kumar Das was found near a subdistrict hospital without he failed to return home.
Was his vehicle taken?
The police said that those who attacked him fled with his battery-operated autorickshaw. Early signs point to robbery as the motive, though investigations are standing and no arrests have been reported yet.
Who was the victim?
Samir lived in the Dagonbhuiyan zone of Feni and earned his living driving the autorickshaw. Relatives and neighbours said he left home on Sunday evening to work, but did not return. His soul was discovered hours later by local residents who alerted police.
What did police say?
A police officer in Daganbhuiyana said, "Samir was murdered with country-made weapons and tamed to death. Prima facie, it appears to be a pre-planned murder. The perpetrators moreover looted an auto-rickshaw without the killing. The victim's family will file a First Information Report (FIR). The police have launched an operation to identify and trespassing the culprits."
Police in Feni have launched a special operation to find the suspects and recover the stolen vehicle.
Is this an isolated case?
This killing comes tween a worrying trend of violence versus Hindu minorities in parts of Bangladesh.
On January 5, a Hindu grocery owner, Moni Chakraborty, was fatally attacked with sharp weapons by unknown assailants at his shop in Narsingdi, Bangladesh, and died en route to the hospital, escalating fears among the minority polity tween a series of targeted attacks. Furthermore, two increasingly Hindu men died over the past week due to violence versus religious minorities. Bangladesh authorities have launched an investigation into the matter.
Amid violent nationwide protests triggered by the death of anti-India student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, a total of 12 Hindus have reportedly been killed so far.
