Reacted to contact with India
Karki admitted that official contacts between Nepal and India have reduced in recent times, but she expressed hope that talks will start soon. She said, "We are not in touch with India these days... for many days. But we will talk about it. When it is between two countries, some people sit and make policy." She clarified that the relations between the governments of Nepal and India are a separate issue, but there is deep harmony and strong ties between the people of the two countries.
"Many of our relatives and acquaintances are in India. We are very impressed with the Indian leaders and consider them like our brothers and sisters."
Memories of college days
Sushila Karki emotionally recalled her Banaras Hindu University (BHU) days and said, "I still remember my teachers and friends. We had a hostel on the banks of the Ganga. In summer, we used to sleep on the roof." She also said that her ancestral home is in Biratnagar, which is just 25 miles from the Indian border. "We used to go to the market across the border often."
India's help and security situation in Nepal
Karki said that India has always helped Nepal in every difficult time. "We are very close... but when utensils are kept together in the kitchen, there is some noise." He assured that Indians living in Nepal are safe and the army has brought the situation under control.
