International News:A new chapter was added to Nepal's politics on Friday. Former Chief Justice of the country Sushila Karki was sworn in as Prime Minister. President Ramchandra Paudel administered her the oath of office and secrecy at Rashtrapati Bhavan in Kathmandu. Karki is the first woman from Nepal to reach the post.
Gained advantage due to support of youth
Sushila Karki's name has been in constant discussion amidst the ongoing protests and political instability in Nepal in recent times. Especially the youth and Jane-Zee supporters carried her forward as an honest and anti-corruption face. Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah, who was himself a contender for the post of prime minister, also supported her. In the race for the interim prime minister, former Nepal Electricity Board chief Kulman Ghising was also named, but the consensus was eventually built on Karki.
The journey from judiciary to power
73-year-old Karki has created history before. She was the first woman Chief Justice of Nepal. In July 2016, she took over the reins of the Supreme Court. However, just ten months later, an impeachment motion was brought against her, and she had to leave the post. While being the Chief Justice, she conveyed many tough decisions, especially on cases of corruption, due to which she became popular among the public.
Education and early life
Sushila Karki was born on 7 June 1952 in Biratnagar. She is the eldest of the seven children of her parents. In 1972, he completed his graduation from Mahendra Morang Campus in Baratnagar. After this, she came to India in 1975 and earned a master's degree in political science from Banaras Hindu University. In 1978, he completed law studies at Tribhuvan University in Nepal and started practicing the next year.

In an interview given before the oath, Karki remembered her days in India. She said that she still remembers the moments spent on the banks of Banaras Hindu University and Ganga. Karki said that there has always been intimacy and brotherhood between the people of India and Nepal. She also appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that she would try to strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Baratnagar is just 25 miles from India's border. Karki has often gone to the markets settled near the border. Experts believe that his becoming prime minister may lead to a new beginning of closeness and cooperation in India and Nepal's relations.
