An Air India flight coming from Hong Kong to Delhi had a technical problem shortly after landing on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. The flight, AI 315, landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. A fire broke out in the plane’s Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) while it was parked at the gate and passengers had started getting off.
The APU helps power the aircraft when it is on the ground without needing external support. Air India said the APU caught fire, but the plane’s system worked as planned and quickly turned it off.
Passengers and Crew Safe; No Injuries
Air India said that all passengers and crew were safe. The APU caught fire after the plane had parked and people had started getting off. The APU was automatically turned off by the system. Everyone is safe and there were no injuries,” an airline spokesperson said.
The fire caused some damage to the aircraft, but it did not affect the evacuation. All passengers exited the plane normally without panic or harm. Crew members also left safely.

After the incident, the plane has been kept on the ground at Delhi airport and will not fly until it is checked.
