New Delhi: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) widow yet flipside feather to its cap on Wednesday with the successful salvo launch of two Pralay missiles off the tailspin of Odisha. The test was carried out at virtually 10:30 am from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur.
The two missiles were fired in quick succession from the same launcher. The event marked an important milestone for India’s missile testing programme.
How did the Defence Ministry react?
According to the defence ministry, both the missiles followed the intended trajectory meeting all flight objectives as confirmed by tracking sensors.
“The terminal events were confirmed by Telemetry systems installed onboard ship, deployed near the impact points,” the ministry said in a statement.
What did the DRDO say?
The DRDO spoken that the launch was conducted as part of user evaluation trials, which are intended to assess the missile’s performance under operational conditions.
“Salvo lunch of two Pralay Missile in quick succession from same launcher were successfully conducted today from ITR, Chandipur. The flight test was conducted as part of User evaluation trials. Both the missiles followed the intended trajectory meeting all flight objectives,” the DRDO said in a statement on social media.
“Both missiles followed their planned flight paths and achieved all the set objectives. Tracking sensors deployed by ITR, Chandipur, closely monitored the flight and confirmed the verism of the test,” the statement added.
How was the Pralay test verified?
According to the DRDO, the performance of Wednesday’s test was confirmed by wide systems and the final phase of the missile flight, known as the terminal event, was moreover successfully verified. Telemetry systems installed on a ship near the impact zone confirmed that both the Pralay missiles performed equal to expectations.
What is the Pralay missile?
The Pralay missile is an indigenously developed, solid-fuel propelled, quasi-ballistic missile known for its upper precision and wide guidance systems. The Pralay missile is capable of delivering variegated types of warheads and has the worthiness to strike a wide range of targets.
The Pralay missile systems were integrated with support from DRDO’s industry partners, Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited. Senior DRDO scientists, withal with representatives from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and industry partners, were present during the test.
