Centre Steps Up Key Policy Meeting in Delhi After Deadly Plane Crash

Published: Jun 16, 2025

National News: After the horrific plane crash in Ahmedabad, the central government has taken swift action and called a high-level review meeting in Delhi on Monday. This meeting is the first meeting of the committee, which has recently been constituted by the Home Ministry. The committee is headed by the Home Secretary, and its objective is clear—to prepare concrete policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent recurrence of such accidents.

It is worth noting that this accident happened last Thursday when Air India's Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft left Ahmedabad for London's Gatwick Airport. A few minutes after takeoff, the plane crashed on the medical college campus of Meghnagar due to a technical fault. There were 242 people on board the plane, out of which only one person survived.

AAIB is conducting technical investigation; hope increased with the black box found

The government has handed over the responsibility of technical investigation of the accident to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB). The AAIB team is trying to find out whether this accident happened due to any mechanical fault or system failure.

Meanwhile, it is a matter of relief that the black box was recovered on Friday. The black box contains important information related to the conversation between the pilot and co-pilot, technical data related to the flight, and the speed and position of the aircraft. Experts believe that the analysis of this device will reveal the real cause of the accident.

Report will have to be submitted in three months

The committee headed by the Home Secretary will have to submit a detailed report within three months. This report will include possible improvements, policy changes, and necessary amendments in SOPs. Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu has already clarified that the technical investigation will be done by AAIB while this committee will work on security policies.

This move is being seen under the Center's "Zero Tolerance for Safety Lapse" policy. According to sources, the committee will propose a comprehensive policy taking into account the views of various ministries, aviation experts, and international safety standards.

Only one out of 242 survived, wave of mourning in the country

This accident has shaken the whole country. The survival of only one person out of 242 shows the horror of this accident. The NDRF and fire department teams that reached the spot were engaged in rescue operations for hours. Eyewitnesses said that the plane came down very fast and there was a huge explosion after the collision.

Will flight safety get a new direction?

Now everyone's eyes are on the recommendations of the committee. Will there be any revolutionary change regarding flight safety in India? Will the SOPs be made more strict and practical? These questions are now very important for both the aviation world and the passengers.
