Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has imposed a 1-year ban on gutkha and pan masala containing tobacco and nicotine in the state. This visualization has been taken keeping public health in mind. This order was issued from the office of the Food Safety Commissioner on June 15, 2026.

The order was issued from the office of the Food Safety Commissioner on June 15, 2026.
Why did the Karnataka government take this step?
The state government has cited public health as the main reason overdue this decision. Earlier in June, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had moreover warned of strict whoopee on complaints of intoxicants stuff mixed in gutkha and pan masala. He had said that if intoxicants are found in such products, strict whoopee can be taken versus them in the state.
Now what will happen to the violators?
After this ban of one year comes into force, the Food Safety Department can take whoopee in matters related to the manufacture, storage, transportation, distribution or sale of vetoed products. It will be the responsibility of the concerned authorities for monitoring and investigation in the state to ensure compliance with the order.
