Wayand: A massive landslide has struck Kalladi near Meppady in Kerala's Wayanad district on Tuersday. As per reports, several people are feared trapped underneath the debris. The incident of landslide occurred at the site of the Wayanad Tunnel Project.
Where did the incident happen?
Fire and Rescue Service officials said that the landslide occurred near the Meenakshi Bridge in Kalladi, where construction is underway for a tunnel road project connecting Malappuram and Wayanad districts. Search and rescue operations have been started as authorities work to determine the number of people who may still be trapped, they said.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) informed that heavy rains had caused the landslide in Wayanad. Five people were injured in the landslide and were hospitalized. However, Minister T. Siddique later confirmed that six people were seriously injured.

The Kerala Chief Minister's Office stated that the NDRF unit stationed in Meenangadi is immediately reaching the wrecking site. The NDRF team in Kozhikode has moreover been directed to Wayanad. Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan moreover spoke with the Wayanad District Collector to assess the situation.
