Parliament will hold a 16-hour debate on Operation Sindoor next week after the Opposition strongly demanded it. The Business Advisory Committee approved the plan.
The Opposition had pushed for the debate to be held this week, asking that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally respond during the discussion. However, due to the PM's upcoming foreign trip, the debate was postponed to the following week.
Operation Sindoor Among Key Topics Demanded by Opposition
Operation Sindoor is the Indian Army's response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. It was one of eight topics the Opposition wanted to discuss during the current monsoon session of Parliament. The agenda was prepared during a recent virtual meeting attended by 24 opposition parties. Sources say the government agreed to the debate on Operation Sindoor based on the Opposition’s insistence and its national importance.
PM Modi Praises Armed Forces Ahead of Parliament Session
Before the monsoon session began, Prime Minister Modi addressed the media and praised the success of Operation Sindoor. He described it as a “Vijay Utsav” or celebration of victory, highlighting it as a strong example of the power and skill of India’s armed forces.
PM Modi said, “This Monsoon Session is a Vijay Utsav,” meaning a celebration of victory. “The world has seen how capable our military is. Operation Sindoor achieved its goal with complete success. In just 22 minutes, our forces eliminated the terrorists at their base.”
Debate to Focus on National Security and Response
The upcoming debate is expected to focus on India’s national security, the details of the operation, and the government's handling of cross-border threats. With both the government and the opposition ready to present their views, the discussion is likely to be intense and highly watched.
