As soon as the PM hoisted the tricolor, a 21-gun salute was given from the Indian Army's ethnic 105 mm light field gun. The 21-gun salute is an old tradition of Independence Day. As soon as the Tricolor was hoisted, the unshortened Red Fort echoed with slogans of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'.

During the ceremony, two Mi-17 helicopters of the Air Force passed over the Red Fort. One helicopter had a national flag and the other had a 'Vande Mataram' flag. Flower petals were showered from both the helicopters. Flowers falling from the sky made the undercurrent increasingly grand.
