Sudden Weather Twist in Delhi Morning Showers and Gusty Winds Bring Surprise Relief

Published: Jun 15, 2025

Delhi: The weather in Delhi took an unexpected turn on Sunday morning. After enduring hot winds and a blazing sun on Saturday, residents woke up to strong gusts and sudden rainfall that caught everyone by surprise. The Meteorological Department had already issued a warning, and now its effect is visible on the ground as well. This change has definitely brought some relief to the people, but along with this, vigilance is also needed.

Morning rain broke the heat of summer

On Sunday morning, the sky suddenly got covered with clouds in many areas of Delhi-NCR. Then strong winds started, and rain knocked on the door in no time. In many areas, this rain was light, while in some places it came in the form of heavy showers. Meteorologists say that this change is the result of the initial activation of Western Disturbance and monsoon winds.

Meteorological Department issued Orange Alert

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for the capital region. The department said that in the next few hours, Delhi and its surrounding areas may experience thunderstorms and rain along with strong winds (speed 40-60 kmph). This will not only bring down the temperature but will also provide some relief from the humid heat.

Record-breaking heat on Saturday, heat index 51.8 degrees

On Saturday, the maximum temperature of Delhi was recorded at 41.8 degrees Celsius, which was about 2 degrees more than normal. But the real problem was not from the heat but from the humidity. By 8 pm, Delhi's heat index had reached 51.8 degrees; that is, the body was feeling so hot as if the temperature was above 50. The minimum temperature was also 29.6 degrees, which is much more than normal.

Aya Nagar is the hottest; people are in bad condition

The highest temperature in the capital was recorded in Aya Nagar, where the mercury climbed to 42.2 degrees. Residents of the area said that power cuts and humidity made the situation even worse. People were forced to remain confined in their homes throughout the day, and even AC-coolers could not provide relief.

Along with relief, there is also danger; advice to be alert

While on one hand rain and wind have provided relief from the heat, on the other hand, there are also potential dangers associated with them. The weather department has advised people not to stand under trees, stay away from open wires or loose boards, and not to leave the house unnecessarily.

People suffering from heat in Delhi are now expected to get some relief. This change in the weather has shown that relief is possible even amidst the scorching heat of June—provided we remain alert and aware.
