Three Dead, Two InjuredBlood Spilled Over Liquor Trade in Bihars Siwan! Village Turns Into a Killing Field

Published: Jul 04, 2025

National News: A triple murder in Bihar's Siwan district has triggered widespread panic and outrage. The incident occurred in Bhagwanpur's Malmalia village, where three individuals were killed during a violent clash between two local groups. The primary suspect, Shatrudhan Singh, has been named by villagers as being behind the killings. Early reports indicate the motive is tied to the illegal liquor trade and the victims’ alleged role in tipping off police about the operation. The brutal nature of the attack and its connection to organized crime has sent shockwaves across the region.

Warning Ignored by Authorities

Ten days prior to the murders, local police reportedly received intel about Shatrudhan Singh’s involvement in bootlegging. However, delayed action allowed him to remain active and, allegedly, to execute the deadly assault. The police’s inaction has sparked public anger, with many blaming the authorities for failing to act in time. In the wake of the murders, officials have promised strict legal steps and launched an urgent manhunt for the absconding suspect.

Overbridge Turns Into Battleground

The confrontation happened at Malmalia Overbridge, where two factions clashed violently on Thursday evening. Eyewitnesses confirmed there was both gunfire and sword fighting during the incident. The sudden eruption of violence led to the immediate death of three men—identified as Munna Singh, Kanhaiya Kumar, and Rohit Kumar. Two others sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Siwan Sadar Hospital. Initial findings point to revenge over whistleblowing in illegal liquor dealings.

Revenge for Whistleblowing Alleged

According to the Bhagwanpur SHO, the attack was a retaliation against those who informed authorities about the liquor business. One faction, armed with guns and swords, ambushed the other, accusing them of being informants. Despite attempts to de-escalate, the confrontation escalated into a full-blown bloodbath. Following the attack, tensions soared—vehicles were torched and shops shuttered. Authorities were forced to deploy senior officials and reinforcements to stabilize the area.

Police Say Past Dispute Escalated

Siwan SP Manoj Tiwari stated that the killings stemmed from an old personal rivalry. He acknowledged that past disputes, possibly reignited by recent informant activities, played a key role. Relatives of the victims said that a month ago, heated arguments occurred over opposing illegal liquor sales. Despite earlier interventions, no firm action was taken, ultimately resulting in Thursday’s bloodshed.

Killed, Crushed and Mutilated

The violence was described as horrific. After the initial attack with swords and firearms, the assailants reportedly ran over the victims with a vehicle, crushing them to death. Images from the scene showed dismembered bodies strewn across the road. SP Tiwari and SDPO immediately arrived for on-ground inspection. Given the brutality, additional police forces have been deployed to prevent further escalation.

Siwan on Edge After Murders

Tensions remain high across the region. Protests erupted in surrounding villages, demanding justice and swift arrests. Local authorities have intensified patrolling and surveillance. Meanwhile, opposition leaders have criticized the Nitish Kumar government for failing to curb rising crime and bootlegging. The triple murder has reignited debate over Bihar’s liquor ban enforcement and police accountability.
