National News: The Haridevpur area of South Kolkata witnessed a painful incident on Saturday night, when a 20-year-old girl lodged a complaint of gang rape. It is alleged that two of her acquaintances called her on the pretext of a birthday and then took her to a flat and raped her.
After reaching home, she revealed the secret
According to sources, the incident happened on Friday evening. The victim somehow escaped from there and returned home and, in a state of panic, told the whole story to her family. The family immediately took the matter seriously and lodged a report at Haridevpur police station late Saturday night. Police say a case has been registered and a search operation is underway to arrest the accused.
The lure of joining Durga Puja committee
The victim met a young man named Chandan Malik a few months ago. He claimed that he was in charge of a famous Durga Puja committee of South Kolkata. During this time, he introduced the girl to his friend Deep. Both of them often talked to the victim in the name of making inroads into the family and society. It is alleged that he gradually won the trust of the girl by luring her with the promise of inclusion in the puja committee.
Birthday became a trap
It was the girl's birthday on Friday. On this pretext, Chandan and Deep called her to a flat in the Regent's Park area. First they had dinner together, but when the victim said she wanted to return home, both of them closed the door. It has been alleged in the complaint that after this the girl was gang-raped.
The victim somehow escaped
After the incident, the victim gathered courage and managed to escape from the spot. After returning home, she told the entire incident to her family. Police say that the girl's statement has been recorded and a medical examination has also been done. Raids are being conducted to arrest both of the accused.
Police's strictness and investigation
The Haridevpur police station says that this matter is sensitive and is being investigated speedily. CCTV footage installed in the area is being scanned so that the activities of the accused can be confirmed. Police claim that the identity of both is clear and they will be arrested soon.
