In November, an Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh was stopped at Shanghai Pudong Airport. Chinese officials tangibly refused to recognise her Indian passport considering it mentioned Arunachal Pradesh as her birthplace. She was questioned for nearly 18 hours and prevented from boarding her flight. Embassy officials later intervened to help her leave.
MEA Demands Warranty From China
After the incident, India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a sharp statement. The ministry said China must ensure that Indian travellers are not selectively targeted or harassed at airports.
