Medvedev Warns NATO of Russian Attack if Ukraine War Escalates, US Sends More Weapons

Published: Jul 18, 2025

World News: Former Russian President and close ally of Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, has warned Western countries against increasing tensions in the Ukraine war. He said that if NATO and other Western nations continue to send more weapons to Ukraine and the war becomes more intense, they should be ready to face Russia's strong military response.

Medvedev also made strong comments against NATO, calling it “rubbish” and blaming it for creating problems in Europe.

No Immediate Plan to Attack Europe, Says Russia

In an interview with Russia's state news agency TASS, Medvedev said that Russia currently has no intention to attack NATO member countries. However, he warned that if the situation gets worse, Russia will not stay silent.

These remarks come as US President Donald Trump has asked for a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine to be made within 50 days. Trump has also announced tough sanctions on Russia if this does not happen.

US and NATO Supplying Advanced Weapons to Ukraine

According to reports, the United States is speeding up the supply of advanced weapons to Ukraine. A Patriot air defense system, built specially for Ukraine, is being sent from Switzerland. The US is also planning to buy long-range drones that can strike up to 1,300 kilometers, adding more power to Ukraine’s defense.

Trump has also said that the weapons sent to Ukraine will include not only defensive but also offensive systems, and European countries will help cover the cost.

Medvedev Calls NATO's Actions Dangerous

Medvedev made it clear that if NATO tries to harm Russia, the Russian military will respond with full strength. He criticized Western leaders, calling their actions and comments “foolish” and dangerous for Europe.

The Kremlin, the Russian President’s office, later said that Medvedev’s comments reflect his personal opinion but also show the concern over rising conflict in Europe. Medvedev currently serves as the Deputy Chairman of Russia's Security Council, a key body responsible for national defense and strategy.

Ukraine Gets New Prime Minister Amid Rising Tensions

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Yulia Svyrydenko as the country’s new Prime Minister. She previously served as Finance Minister and will now lead important discussions with the US, including those related to mineral deals and foreign aid.

Russia and Ukraine Exchange Fallen Soldiers' Bodies

In a rare moment of cooperation, Russia and Ukraine exchanged the bodies of soldiers killed in the ongoing war. This exchange was held on Thursday, following an agreement reached earlier in Istanbul, Turkey.
