Gaza peace talk: US President Donald Trump on Friday ordered Israel to halt bombing of the Gaza Strip. Earlier, Hamas said it had wonted some aspects of a plan to end the nearly two-year-long war and return all remaining hostages captured during the October 7, 2023, attack.
Trump wrote on social media that he believed Hamas was ready for a lasting peace. He said Israel should immediately halt its attacks on Gaza to indulge the unscratched and quick evacuation of hostages.
No firsthand response from Israel
Hamas said it was willing to relinquish power and release all remaining hostages under the plan, but other aspects would require remoter consultation with Palestinian groups. This statement came hours without Trump warned that a major military wade was imminent if a deal was not well-set upon by Sunday evening.
There was no firsthand response from Israel, as most government activities were sealed due to the Jewish Sabbath.
Ready to return all hostages
Hamas moreover stated that it wants the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in mart for the release of all hostages. It moreover expressed its willingness to hand over power in Gaza to an self-sustaining Palestinian body, but stressed a joint stance on issues related to Gaza's future and Palestinian rights.
However, Hamas did not say anything well-spoken on disarmament, while it has been a major demand for Israel and America. Under Trump's plan, Israel will have to stop the attack, release prisoners, and indulge humanitarian aid and reconstruction. In return, Hamas would release the remaining hostages, relinquish power, and surrender its weapons.
More than 66,000 Palestinians were killed
The plan moreover proposes that the Gaza Strip, home to approximately two million people, be placed under temporary international rule, overseen by Trump and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
On 7 October 2023, Hamas attacked Israel, killing virtually 1,200 people, and 251 people were abducted. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, in Israel's retaliation, increasingly than 66,000 Palestinians have been killed so far. The mismatch has displaced 90% of the population of Gaza and made a large part of it ruins.
