Sports News: Former Indian cricketer and batter Sanjay Manjrekar has pointed out a major flaw in Karun Nair's batting technique. The No. 3 batter for India returned to test cricket with many expectations after a historic Vijay Hazare run. His comeback was quite celebrated by the Indian fans, and they felt that Nair deserved this chance. However, Karun Nair has not played to expectations in his first five innings in the series. Coming to the Lord's Test, the right-handed batter registered scores of 0, 20, 31, and 36. His starts have been promising, but he is unable to score big.
Manjrekar points out a flaw
Sanjay Manjrekar, the 59-year-old broadcaster and commentator, has said that England is exploiting Nair's habit of playing with hard hands. "With the kind of batting style that he has, he did the best he could. I love the way he tackled that line outside off, but somewhere his deep-rooted instinct of playing sometimes with hard hands and loosely, he's just making things difficult for him to cash in from converting his 20s and 30s to a big 100. So, there's always that gate open for the bowlers to sneak in," said Manjrekar during his discussion on ESPN Cricinfo.
Karun's comeback
Karun Nair was dropped from the Indian test team after his sensational 303* in the Chennai Test against England (2017). He then grinded hard in the domestic circuit and earned his call-up after a commendable batting prowess at the Vijay Hazare Trophy earlier this year. His comeback was much anticipated by the fans, and they felt that Karun deserved his chance. Although Nair has not even made a half century in the ongoing series, his starts have been good.
Unable to score big
Even after consistently scoring 20-30 runs, the No. 3 batter is unable to convert his starts into big scores. He scored 40 off 62 balls on the 2nd day of the Lord's test before micking the ball off Ben Stokes to slips, where Joe Root pulled off a blinder. The batter looked well set but was undone by the opposition skipper.
