Former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is now in jail in Pakistan, made a harsh attack on the country's military establishment on Thursday. He said that Army Chief Gen. Asim Munir should have named him King instead of taking the ceremonial position of Field Marshal.
Commander Asim Munir was promoted Field Marshal, MashaAllah. To be honest, it may have been better to call him "King" instead, as the law of the forest is in charge of the nation right now. Khan wrote on X that there is only one ruler in the jungle.
This Tuesday, Munir was promoted to this unusual rank, which is just the second time in Pakistan's history that an officer in the military has attained it. The promotion was given to him because of his participation in the current military conflict with India, especially after the devastating terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22 that killed 26 people.
Khan tells the rumor mill, "No talks, no debate."
He focused on reports of talks with the armed forces. There has been no accord and no talks are going on. He stated these are falsehoods with no proof. But he kept the door open by saying, "I publicly encourage the military to speak to me if it really cares about Pakistan's future and interests."
The country is going through an economic crisis, is having problems from abroad, and terror is on the increase. We need to come together. He said, I haven't asked for something for myself before, and I won't now.
Warning of India's reaction
The PTI founder also told the Shehbaz Sharif-led governance to be ready for another attack from India. Khan told Pakistani officials to be on their toes without giving any specifics. But his most blunt critique was of the way the government was run. He remarked that Pakistan has become a society where the law only applies to the weak and never the strong.
The more powerful the thief, the greater the office
Khan made a lot of accusations against high-ranking officials. The current state of affairs shows that the basic essence of freedom is being destroyed. He argued that when you say that the larger the crook, the higher the post they'll have, you kill justice. He said that the National Responsibility Bureau (NAB) didn't do anything about the powerful. The NAB still has a case against Asif Zardari's sister, who is the president's sister. It has to do with five flats that were registered in the names of workers. She is in another country, and no one is brave enough to ask her. Khan said that he was accused of money laundering in a case for PKR 22 billion, yet he was still named Prime Minister.
"Justice is a joke": Prison trials and restrictions
Khan presented a dark picture of his time in prison and what he termed a rigged court system. The Tosha khana-II case is back in court for a ridiculous trial. A single colonel decides what happens in court, just as in jail. My sisters and attorneys can't go to court, my friends can't see me, I can't see my kids for months, my books aren't delivered, and I can't see my doctor. He added that this is still breaking court orders and the law. The prior prime minister also warned about reports of drone strikes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and encouraged the province administration to file official complaints. He cautioned that murdering innocent people in drone strikes does not stop terrorism; it just makes it worse. He went on to say that after years of fighting, we have finally stopped American drone missions in Pakistan. If you say you are against terrorism, don't bomb the houses of your own people.
